chomiji: Doa from Blade of the Immortal can read! Who knew? (Doa - books)
[personal profile] chomiji

I finished my last-minute reading of Hugo short fiction items and did my voting on Saturday morning. I think that there were a LOT of very good "shorts" this year.

I am re-reading The Story of the Stone by Barry Hughart, which is the second of the Master Li and Number Ten Ox books. I also tried (really, I did) to read two Very Serious books, which turned out to be nearly unreadable and almost useless for their intended purpose. *looks shifty*

Subscription/Access Policy: Friend away! I'm always looking for new friends to talk to. As for access, I grant almost everyone that subscribes to me. If I ever lock something it'll be something really personal and might be trigger-y. I will always warn if I do post something of that nature. There's no pressure to grant me access back.

Fannish Interests: Gosh, okay, I like a lot of things. But I also need to catch up on a lot of things. That's my problem.

I watch a lot of tv. Right now I'm watching shadowhunters and deciding if I want to catch up on Teen Wolf or not. My love for Scott McCall is enternal though.

I really enjoy pokemon,  digimon,  yugioh,  sailor moon, power rangers, tf&f series, harry potter, kingdom hearts, and classic spn. all of those were my fandoms before I ever knew what fandom meant. i am casually into new doctor who but Ten was my first doctor and my favorite era. I'm always there for the companions the most though and I love bill potts so much. i love sherlock holmes adaptations but i gotta say my favorite is elementary. i'm also into low energy video games so pretty much anything nintendo and the sims. I'm a little obsessed with the sims and the fandom it has on youtube. just a little. Superheroes are cool too! I like the mcu and dcu but i haven't watched all of it yet bc reasons. Omg star wars is a big one lately too. and the new Star Trek and hopefully the new series!! as for cartoons steven universe is like the best thing that ever happened to me probably. aaaand books!! gosh do i hope to actually start to read books. The last full thing I read that wasn't fanfiction was the hunger games.

sp in summary i love anything cheesy, ridiculous, and about friendship :D

I Like To Post About: honestly? cute animals. cats especially. i'll post about all the things i care about and I might  do reaction posts to a show or movie etc. I hope to at least post fic or a rec or just journaling in general! I'm trying to find my place in dreamwidth after being on tumblr for so long now.

About Me/Other Info: I'm an ace nonbinary (she/they pronouns) lesbian. I'm autistic, mentally ill, and have chronic pain & illness. I'm infp, capricorn, and a hufflepuff.

hurt/comfort is my whole life. It's like my one true kink. I love reading it, writing it, having discussions about it, reading meta about, you get it. It's my jam.

I'll mostly comment on stuff for a while probably. I have a strict rule that is if I see an entry/read a fic/etc I comment on it. <3

* My neck was actually in good enough shape to use the computer for a half hour last night. I put some clips down! But oh noes, I put a feels clip down, and getting on with vidding instead of just watching that over and over again? Tough times.

* On the subject of vidding, Fall Equinox sign ups are open :D

* You can get the game Jotun for free on Steam atm. Don't know how long it's going to last, but it looks beautiful and you get to play a viking lady out to prove her worth to the Gods.

* The new Dr is a lady? GOOD STUFF. Now let's pray we don't get an annoying, white boy companion. I might actually have to start watching it. Meanwhile, I'll settle for watching the joy of my twitter timeline, interspersed with mockery of outright stupidity. I mean, ain't that a gem?

* Florida's Walt Disney World now has plans of adding a Star Wars-themed hotel. And they're going above and beyond. Employees will be in costume and in character at all times, you'll get an identity of your own (and I do believe costuming as well), and all the windows? Will show only outer space. (!!!)

Personally, I would like to petition for more hotels with outer space windows? Gimme a sparse, space-feeley room and THE UNIVERSE OUTSIDE MY WINDOW. Think about it, you don't even have to pay for a good view, as it'll be programmed into every single room ;D

* Note to self: RE-UP YOUR MOOD THEME BEFORE PHOTOBUCKET SWALLOWS IT WHOLE.

We've been playing our second Numenera campaign for about a year now. Numenera is a rather open-ended system that encourages the GM to reward creative play: anyone can try to do anything, and there is essentially one scale and one mechanism for doing just about any sort of task. If you're trained (or the higher-level version, Specialized), you just have an asset (or assets) toward making the roll. The scenario is an ancient world situation (think Vance's Dying Earth, but with more Steampunk-ish elements), and the current campaign is ocean-oriented. We have a ship (and more recently have also acquired a small submarine), and most of the characters have seafaring or other aquatic backgrounds.

So, at [community profile] vidukon_cardiff I had the immense pleasure of getting to vid alongside other vidders. It was 😍 and 🚀 and 😭. I hope everybody gets to experience this at some point, and with such a lovely and enthusiastic bunch as I got to share it with.

The way it worked was, we got split into groups of four, each given two memory sticks with six random movies and a timestamp to fill in the ever so epic Meatloaf song chosen by the brilliant [personal profile] brokenmnemonic. We all had a great time, and most people ended up sitting there through lunch, tinkering with their end of the timeline.

Then we all passed it off to [personal profile] lithiumdoll, completely unaware of what other people stuck in their bit, and she stitched it all together in time for us to watch it at the con. And a most serious time was had ;)

May I present to you fine folks: The Frankenvid! :DDDD

chomiji: Sai, the courtly, go-playing Heian ghost, playing a flute - from Hikaru no Go (Sai - music)

Music and lyrics by Bill Staines; performance by Priscilla Herdman

"You can trust the moon to move the mighty ocean
You can trust the sun to shine upon the land
You take the little that you know
And you do the best you can
And see the rest with the quiet faith of man."

Dedicated today to myself, because I need to calm down and move forward.

So. Managed to completely fuck up my neck by, ah, sleeping. Yeah. And I woke up to pee two hours before my alarm as well, and my neck was fine then. First time this has happened to me, and it is no fun.

Actually anti-fun to try and use my laptop right now, bah. Ow. Whine.

Wanting to make a post for days and days, like about how I'm watching Xena now. Or how VidUKon got me to relax and love vidding again with our bonkers fun-times collab, so now I'm also making an overly-literal Xena vidlet. #Funsies

Or about GLOW, which I finished right before starting work again. Or my trip to London/VidUKon and the awesome people thereabouts. Some articles and such I've stumbled across on twitter. How I'm going to be an aunt in not too long.

But, ow. So, here's some icons I posted, bye!

Over the winter, we got a "lamb share" CSA from one of the vendors (Cabin Creek Heritage Farm) at the Takoma Park Farmers Market. We liked it, but they don't have lamb over the summer. The Mr. is particular about his beef and doesn't want it to have been frozen, so we went for "mini pork share" this time.

This is just such sweet vid, and makes me feel overcome by all the feelings I had when watching the show as it aired. That it's an excellent song choice doesn't hurt, either.

Field Work, a vid for the Indiana Jones series by [personal profile] eruthros
I will never look at Indiana Jones the same way again.

For the first time this year at WisCon, there was a drabble challenge, with results posted in a collection at the AO3: WisCon 41 Drabbles.
I particularly enjoyed the drabbles by [archiveofourown.org profile] j00j and [archiveofourown.org profile] TheAndy, but am probably biased because they are friends.

It's a small collection, but one of high quality, and I hope that they do it again next year. The idea of collecting works created in the same physical location, over a specific period of time, is pretty cool. Also, I was at the Best Superpowers for Banging panel, which inspired the "Lube Jets" drabble. To say that the panel was hilarious feels like an understatement.

Main Fandoms: At the moment Marvel is running/ruining my life. I especially love the Netflix shows, the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, and Spider-Man: Homecoming. I also love Star Wars, the Queen's Thief series, Harry Potter, the Earthsea Cycle, The Walking Dead (comics and show), Batman: The Animated Series, horror movies, and the Discworld series.
Other Fandoms: The Man From U.N.C.L.E, Gravity Falls, Supernatural, Disney
Fannish Interests: I love talking about the shows, movies, and books I enjoy. I don't post any fanfic on this account, but I adore reading it and discussing it, too.
OTPs and Ships: Gaby/Illya, Frank/Karen, Foggy/Marci

Favorite Movies: LOTR, Star Wars, GOTG, Sky, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Pacific Rim, Logan
TV Shows: Lots of sitcoms, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage; The Walking Dead
Books: Tons of children's and YA. Gillian Flynn, J.K. Rowling, S.E. Hinton, Dorothy Allison, Ursula K. Le Guin
Music: Pretty much anything that sounds good
Comics/Anime/Misc: I read a lot of DC and Marvel. Cassandra Cain is my favorite Batgirl.

Other Info: I'm looking for anyone who's friendly and/or shares some interests.

Subscription/Access Policy: It's a free-for-all unless that becomes a problem somehow.

Fannish Interests: Doctor Who, Avatar: The Last Airbender, MCU, DCTV, the new Wonder Woman movie, Type Moon, Steins;Gate, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, the 100, and whatever else has caught my fancy this month. I would really like to rewatch some things I'm really rusty on, like Stargate SG-1, too!

I play video games very, very occasionally. I love Portal and recently Mass Effect.

I like to post about: Most of my journal, right now, is a series of Dear Author letters. I write fic a lot, usually for exchanges. However, I just decided I'm going to do a fandom autobiography to keep myself coming back for a while and to develop a habit. The first installment of that fannish autobiography is up now, so you can see what me rambling about myself looks like. Other things I'm likely to write about are similar to things I write about on my tumblr (only to be ignored in general) such as character arcs, reactions to episodes, fanfiction, fanfiction ideas, and random tidbits about my life from time to time.

About Me/Other Info: Dog person, Aquarius, INFP. Nightowl, chronic napper. I like monsters and space. Never 100% outgrew my emo/goth phase but also sometimes wear pink. I just finished a teacher preparation program in May. Currently, I'm looking for a job. My sleep cycle is a wreck right now due to unemployment, and I'm trying to make my life something that is a little more satisfying to me in a lot of ways. 95% of what I do on the internet is related to fandom in some way. I am a religious person, but I do not post about it except where it is relevant to any personal posts I make. I just thought you should know because we won't be good-match friends if you tend to post negative things about religion (any of them, not just my own). I'm socialist-leaning politically, but again, I try to make my action and life speak for themselves and don't really preach to choirs or blog about it that much. I'm bi but chronically single and currently mostly okay with that. I know like five-thing about CSS and HTML and might someday get into making stuff with that.

On The Dark Side - John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band (as featured in the movie "Eddie and the Cruisers")

If the song sounds vaguely familiar but somehow you don't think you ever heard it, you may be thinking of songs by Gary "U.S." Bonds, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, or … Bruce Springsteen. They're all exemplars of the Jersey Shore Sound, which for some reason always feels very hamische (like home) to me. In the comments on this one, in fact, someone complains that Springsteen stole this style from Cafferty and Southside Johnny.

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away I used to blog on a Livejournal that is no doubt long since deleted and purged. I can't even remember the name of it. Randomly I started having fits of nostalgia, came online and discovered Dreamwidth. And here I am!

It's been a good decade since I've participated in fandom and I'm hoping to get back into writing fanfiction

I like to post about: Pretty much anything and everything that goes through my head
I would say it's unlikely you will find me posting about hatred, bigotry, politics, war, religion... that kind of thing
My last three posts were about: My need for quiet/stillness (and how my boyfriend doesn't understand it), starting to learn German and how I don't understand selfie culture

About Me/Other Info: I'm a Sagittarius born in the year of the dog, an ESTJ, a Ravenclaw and a geek. I studied Psychology but have never put it to use and instead I work in a bank. I love alternative music and grunge, my music tastes are still in the late 90s/early 2000s. I love science fiction and superheroes, Star Trek and Star Wars both, DC and MCU both (but only the shows/movies, I'm not a comic book reader). Some of my other favourite things include steampunk, carousels, zoos & safari parks, ripped jeans, pretty dresses, staying up all night, ghost stories, fairy tales, drinking tea, singing badly and collecting cushions and blankets

TV Shows: Some I really love are: Supernatural, Bates Motel, Grimm, Almost Human, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, American Horror Story, Orange Is the New Black, Preacher, Bosch, Smallville, Roswell, True Blood, X-Files, Farscape, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Game of Thrones, Queer as Folk (US), Hannibal

Books: "Harry Potter", "Ravished" by Amanda Quick. "Silver Lining" and "The Promise of Jenny Jones" by Maggie Osborne. I absolutely love historical romance novels so everything by Elizabeth Hoyt and Lisa Kleypas is an autobuy for me. "The Green Mile" by Stephen King. Generally most of the books by Joy Fielding and Mary Higgins Clark.

Music: I love music and I listen to almost every genre. Classical, rock, metal, ambient, alternative, music of all eras (especially 80s/90s. Those funny disco songs always crack me up lol), blues, even country, German Schlager, eurodance. I know no shame when it comes to music.

Cowboy Bebop, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Banana Fish, Bronze/Zetsuai, Angel Sanctuary, Skip Beat and a lot more.

Other Info: I was sorted into Slytherin. The hat let me decide between that and Hufflepuff, so I told him that I liked green better. :D I'm an ISFJ. I love nature and animals. Long walks in the nature make me feel all happy and content. I could watch grazing horses or cows forever. I have four cats and wish I had a dog again. I have a sweet tooth. I love bodyweight excercises. I like to laugh until I cry and my belly starts to hurt.

My journal is 90% fannish stuff. You've probably noticed that I'm a slash fan. I also have a couple of incestuous ships. Just saying in case you didn't know and react shocked. I don't hate on ships.

I'm looking for other like-minded (fannish) people with whom I can squee and, if the occasion arises, have insightful discussions with. LJ was my main residence since 2006. But with the rescent ToS fiasco I don't feel at home there anymore. So I've decided to move into my DW and make myself comfy here. All that is missing is you. So, let's be friends! :)

I love reaction gifs, so I wrap this up with one, just because.

Peter's mum is in the hospital with an intestinal obstruction, and his dad stayed the night with her there. Peter has gone up to their house to look after the dogs.

Paul is at work, so I'm alone in the house.

It's blissful. I feel bad about enjoying it so much, because I am only getting this time by myself for a really shitty reason (Margaret being in the hospital for a medical problem of as-yet-unknown seriousness), but... I'm still enjoying it. It's so still and comfortable in the house, and there's nobody else's moods or desire for conversation to contend with.

I went to the market this morning and got bread and marveled at the number of tomatoes that have suddenly shown up. Last week it was zucchini and yellow squash as far as the eye could see. Today it was tomatoes of every conceivable shade and size (actually, that's a lie--I didn't see very many green or purple tomatoes today). Bell peppers are starting to come in, too, and the pat-a-pan squash are getting bigger and more interesting to look at. I bought one that looks like a small and slightly craggy watermelon.

I went to a new flower shop near the Scrap Exchange and got flowers to take to the hospital, and then I wandered over to the Scrap Exchange to find a vase for them. I even managed to stay mostly on task, and came away with 2 candidates for less than $5. I'd love to find a house over in that area, but it's the Next Big Thing now, so it's already impossible.

All that, and the only thing I was constrained by was my own whim. It made me realize how little I actually do on my own anymore, without having to at least account for myself to someone waiting at home.

I don't really know what to do with that.

Aaaand Paul's home. Goodbye, sweet temporary illusion.
