'Scuse the mess; we had another storm and it blew crap everywhere.  Knocked a tree branch down and it came close to hitting my building (but not my unit).

Anyway, the newest addition over on the far left is Rocky the yellow pear heirloom tomato plant.  I don't even know why I named it; I was driving home from the store and I just thought of the name Rocky.  And then I thought, I can't name only one of them.   So the other two are Harry and Chuck.  I don't know what I'm going to name the herbs.  o.O

The parsley is just beginning to grow, but I couldn't get any good photos of it. But it will catch up with the others pretty soon, I'm sure. :)

It's funny how little things can brighten your mood. This morning I was grumpy and groggy, as per usual, until I remembered I bought new socks last night when I had to make a quick trip to the dollar store for cat litter and cleaning supplies. It took a ridiculously long time to decide which pair to wear first, the stripes or the polka dots. lol

The rosemary is now growing as well. :) Come on, parsley!

EEEEEEEEE the thyme and basil are growing! I have pics but LJ is still acting wonky because of the DDOS attack. :(

I was concerned they wouldn't do well because right after I planted them, we had a week and a half of crappy weather and overcast skies. But I'm two for four so far. Come on, rosemary and parsley!

Garden time!

Just the basics for now, basil, thyme, rosemary, and flat leaf parsley; my most favorite herbs. ♥ I'm going to add more later on, of course, but I have to start small. I don't have a lot of spare money and buying containers, soil, etcetera racks up pretty fast (I have no idea what happened to the containers I already had when I moved. No. Idea. Ugh.) But I'll get a pretty good return on investment, so. I want to get some heirloom tomatoes, and maybe even some different lettuces, as well as a bigger herb selection. Also, for the first time I am (trying) to grow things from seeds instead of buying seedlings! IF ANYTHING ACTUALLY GROWS I WILL BE SO EXCITED, OMG.

Here, have some funny pictures of Toby while I'm at it. )

I'm tired.  Also bored.  It is my day off, and I have another day off tomorrow.  Being out of class for the time being, I am at a loss as to what to do with myself.

It doesn't help that I have no money.

Oh yes, my garden is not doing so well anymore.  My arugula is under serious attack by mealy bugs and I think it may be done for.  I knew my two peppers had a slight infestation and I was keeping on top of that, but I have no idea how they were able to get at the arugula and I didn't notice until it was too late.

Also the same damn birds that built a nest, laid eggs, and successfully hatched and raised the resulting baby birdies, ) in one of my ferns, have moved to the other fern.  Every morning I go out and water the garden, and tear out whatever nest they've managed to build, because damn if I'm going to let them take over my last fern as a fucking dream home.  There are bazilions of trees around here and they had to pick my ferns to live in.  Idiots.  So I finally got the bright idea to take it off the hook and put it on the ground so my cats can poke around in it.  Not looking like such prime real estate is it anymore, eh?  Haha.

I need to start writing down recipes as I create them.  Trying to recreate something I made a few years ago is failing.  What did I DO?!!

My arugula has doubled in size.  \o/  But I think the leeks are done for.  Stupid cat.

Before.  Hey, I can see my car.  Hi, car.

After... )

The garden is growing!  I am a little shocked that it's actually thriving!  The pepper plants and basil have already nearly doubled in size since Friday.  I think it's because I bought some halfway decent soil instead of whatever was cheapest.  But IT IS ALIVE.  Except for possibly my leeks.  Toby keeps trying to eat them.  Gah!  At first I was pissed, but then it occured to me that cats probably eat grass when they get sick like dogs, and I know he has a problem with hairballs.  So then I felt bad.  He probably had a tummy ache and was just trying to feel better.  But it's not my fault he won't eat the medicine the vet sold me.  He won't even eat bacon grease, which is an old folk remedy for hairballs.  Since the medicine the vet has is basically flavored vasoline there's probably no harm.  But he won't eat it.  Instead he eats my leeks.  The idiot.

Well.  That's what's been going on.  Garden, Toby, work (is still great, and I'm not quite so intimidated by working the line anymore), class (is still great too, I have a ton of pics I need to get around to uploading), I think I've covered everything.

Oh yes, I finally finished Last Argument of Kings.  I think the problem with it is that I don't sense that Joe really likes his characters very much.  I know he set out to write his books as a kind of anti-epic fantasy, and he certainly succeeded in that...but for some reason it just didn't engage me, at all.

So it's looking like I'm stuck here for now.  I'm not quitting, although I had a good cry and rage about it last night, and had half convinced myself to just quit.  That's not me though, and I just needed to get it out of my system.  I'm still going to find the money to get into this program, it's just not going to be this term.

Part of what had me so upset wasn't just getting turned down for a student loan.  It was coming home and finding a notice taped to my front door.  My rent check bounced.  So I get to pay an extra $110 dollars in addition to the rent and in addition to the bank's fee.  And the only reason it happened is because the stupid HR person at work did not tell me when I signed up for direct deposit that the first check would not be direct deposit.  So I blithely wrote a check for my rent last Thursday, assuming the money was going to be in my account the next day.  And even then there wouldn't have been a problem if my manager had given me my damn check on payday, instead it sat at the bar all fucking weekend!  Thanks.

These things happen, and I don't feel very upset anymore, mostly resigned.  And you know what's the most absurd thing?  When I woke up thias morning I thought, well since I'm staying here I may as well go ahead and start a garden.  A garden?  Me, the notorious black thumb?  I hate gardening!  But now I want to try one.  Of all the things!
